Why Think Globally Act Internally?
Do you remember the bumper sticker that said "think globally act locally"?
I came up with my version a few years ago: Think Globally Act Internally
How I did that in a moment, but for now a spelling lesson.
Back in 1997 (seems so long ago now) I began studying acupuncture. Included in the program was something called Qi Gong. Pronounced 'chi' gong and sometimes spelled as one word. You'll even see it spelled chi kung.
The problem being trying to spell something in English when it comes from a language that doesn't use our writing system, as well as using slightly different sounds than we do. So you'll see spelling variations, which are all correct.
A good example is "tao" and "dao". Both are correct. In Chinese they speak a sound that is sort of like an English 'd' and sort of like a 't'. So the spelling just depended on which sound the translator heard.
But then you ask...why the "q" if it's a "ch"??
Q is used because the sound in Chinese aint quite like our 'ch'. Sorta but not. So the linguists decided to use a letter that's not used a lot in English to represent this sound. Yes, a vague answer indeed.
I digress, but very happy to use my degree in linguistics for something!
Anyway....
Qi can be translated as your vital energy. Gong is the working to achieve something.
The words used together simply imply the cultivation of one's vital energy.
Qigong is used for healing the body, increasing energy, calming yourself, balance, personal cultivation and so on. It is the basis of martial arts and Tai Chi (note the spelling).
So now you may be asking yourself what does all this have to do with a bumper sticker?
My qigong instructor taught us these concepts:
Sound familiar?
This was actually back before I heard of Law of Attraction so I didn't have a really good conceptual framework to put it into.
However it did get me thinking that you can't get any more local than yourself.
So to 'act local' was in my mind to 'act internally'.
And if I wanted to change the world I would need to change myself from the inside.
Hence: Think Globally Act Internally
Be the change you wish to see in the World.

My qigong instructor taught us these concepts:
- the Dao is the Source of all things
- it is everywhere in different forms that we experience as qi
- qi follows the mind

The Energy of 8-8-08 has Inspired Me
What an incredible day 8/8/08 was for me!
I got up early to listen to 8-08-08 Collective Consciousness Meditation on Peace and Prosperity
by Julie at www.lawofattractiontools.com (she has a weekly show as well).
Excellent meditation, I highly recommend it!
It was so good I listened to it at 8:08AM and again at 8:08PM.
One of the things that happened was I got inspired to actually start writing a blog.
The main catalyst was an article sent to my by a friend and written by Candace Mann.
It's a wonderful story of compassion that I had to share.
Please read my 1st post "The Downtown Duck Heroes."
I love the title because I think of my favorite show "Heroes". If you don't know it, think of everyday people finding they have extraordinary gifts.
Blessings,
Gary

Downtown Duck Heroes!
Something really amazing happened in downtown Spokane this week, at a second story office building, overlooking busy Riverside Avenue . Several weeks ago, a mother duck choose the cement awning outside his window as the uncanny place to build a nest above the sidewalk. The mallard laid nine eggs in a nest in the corner of the planter that is perched over 10 feet in the air. She dutifully kept the eggs warm for weeks and Monday afternoon all of her nine ducklings hatched.

The whole office worried all night how the mamma duck was going to get those babies safely off their perch in a busy, downtown, urban environment to take to water, which typically happens in the first 48 hours of a duck hatching. Tuesday morning, they came to work and watched the mother duck encourage her babies to the edge of the perch with the intent to show them how to jump off!

They couldn't watch how this might play out, so one of the guys dashed out of his office and ran down the stairs to the sidewalk, where the first obedient duckling was sitting dazed near its mother from the near fatal fall.

As he looked up, the second duckling was getting ready to jump! He quickly dodged under the awning while the mother duck quacked at him and the babies above. As the second one took the plunge, he jumped forward and caught it with his bare hands before it hit the cement. Safe and sound, he set it by the mamma and the other stunned sibling, still recovering from its painful leap.

One by one the babies continued to jump to join their anxious family below. Each time Joel hid under the awning just to reach out in the nick of time as the duckling made its free fall. The downtown sidewalk came to a standstill. Time after time, Joel was able to catch the remaining 7 and set them by their approving mother.
At this point Joel realized the duck family had only made part of its dangerous journey. They had 2 full blocks to walk across traffic, crosswalks, curbs, and pedestrians to get to the closest open water, the Spokane River

Joel said the Mom swam in circles, looking back toward the beaming bank workers, and proudly quacking as if to say...... "See, we did it! Thanks for all the help!"

The mother flew down below and started quacking to her babies above. In his disbelief Joel watched as the first fuzzy newborn toddled to the edge and astonishingly leapt into thin air, crashing onto the cement below.

The onlooking office secretaries then joined in, and hurriedly brought an empty copy paper box to collect the babies. They carefully corralled them, with the mother's approval, and loaded them up into the white cardboard container. Joel held the box low enough for the Mom to see her brood. He then slowly navigated through the downtown streets toward the Spokane River , as the mother waddled behind and kept her babies in sight.

As they reached the river, the mother took over and passed him, jumping into the river and quacking loudly. At the water's edge, the Sterling Bank office staff then tipped the box and helped shepherd the babies toward the water and to their mother after their adventurous ride.
All nine darling ducklings safely made it into the water and paddled up snugly to mamma duck.

Joel said the Mom swam in circles, looking back toward the beaming bank workers, and proudly quacking as if to say...... "See, we did it! Thanks for all the help!"

Thankfully, one of the secretaries had a digital camera and was able to capture most of it (except the actual mid-air catching) in this series of photographs.
Please join me in celebrating-- The Downtown Duck Heroes!
